According to the results of the European Championship in Dragon class, which finished on the 19th of August, the crew of Saint Petersburg Yacht Club, led by Dmitry Samokhin, won a silver medal. The Swiss city of Thun hosted the competition that brought together 62 teams from 13 countries. By the way, the Russian fleet was one of the most representative.
The regatta was held in extremely difficult weather conditions: only three races could be organized during 4 days of the competition and the situation was critical at one point. However, two races were organized on the final fifth day, which even allowed throwing away of the worst result.
The Russians performed greatly in Switzerland: Dmitry Samokhin (Andrey Kirilyuk, Alexey Bushuev) took the silver medal, Evgeny Braslavets (Sergey Pugachev, Sergey Timokhov) – the bronze medal (the team raced under the flag of UAE), and Anatoly Loginov (Vadim Statsenko, Alexander Shalagin) took the fourth place. It should be noted that Samokhin’s crew won in the pre-championship of Switzerland, and a month before Dmitry had become the Champion of Russia again.
Pedru Andrade from Portugal celebrated the victory in the European Championship – he raced in the team under the German flag. A large number of Russian sportsmen participated in the European Championship. Here are their results: Igor Goikhberg – place 12, Alexander Shmidt – place 14, Mikhail Senatorov – place 15, Vasily Senatorov – place 29, Sergey Borodinov – place 32, Oleg Evdokimenko – place 59.
